My background in Interior Design and Set Decoration helps me to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing space. Some time ago, I moved my parents out of their home of 53 years into a contemporary condo. They were not minimalists, to put it lightly. Dad’s work bench was an archeological dig, and Mum still had every greeting card she had ever received.
I knew it was necessary to honor my parents' design choices and keep items of functional and sentimental value, but I had to streamline for the new space. I had to be understanding that this was an emotional experience for them.
I packed and coordinated the physical move, measured all of their furniture, measured the new space, and created a Space Plan so it was easy for the movers to unload. I unpacked and decorated the new space so that it was all familiar and felt like home.
